Parabon is seeking exceptional software engineers with backgrounds in XR (Extended Reality) and biophysics or biochemistry to join our team to help develop the next generation of Parabon's inSēquio™ Design Studio — the leading commercial 3D CAD application for designing DNA nanostructures. Successful hires will join an interdisciplinary research group pursuing an ambitious, long-term project aimed at achieving major scientific advances in the field of DNA nanotechnology and its medical applications.
The software engineer who joins our team will work on the next generation of Parabon's inSēquio Design Studio, specifically assisting with the development of a new XR CAD interface,integrating existing molecular modeling and simulation capabilities adding support for managing simulations and viewing simulation results, and improving inSēquio's user experience.

Remote work from anywhere in the United States is an option. Preference may be given to qualified candidates located in Virginia where Parabon is headquartered.
Required Qualifications
In order to be effective in the position, the candidate must have:
- BS degree in Computer Science
- Significant experience programming in modern C++ in an academic or professional environment
- Experience with implementing 3D graphics design and visualization concepts
- Familiarity with molecular modeling and simulation software
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to quickly master and apply new technologies
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
Desired Qualifications, But Not Required
- MS degree in Computer Science
- Knowledge of computational biophysics or computational chemistry
- Coarse-grained or all-atom molecular dynamics experience (oxDNA, NAMD, Amber)
- Augmented or Virtual Reality User Experience design and development
- OpenGL, Vulkan, Metal, or DirectX lower level 3D API programming experience
- 3D graphics, rendering, solid modeling, or computational geometry algorithms
- OpenXR with hand-tracking development experience
- Scientific or engineering development using game engines such as Unity or Unreal
- C++17 or later experience
- Python 3 for scientific applications, esp. NumPy, Pandas, Jupyter notebooks
- Qt 5 or Qt 6 cross-platform framework development experience
- Commercial software development experience
- Familiarity with agile software development practices
- Familiarity with software development tools and environments (Git, SVN, CMake)
- Experience with multiple operating system platforms (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows)
- Experience with one or more scripting languages (e.g., bash, PowerShell)
- Experience developing containerized and distributed applications (e.g. Docker)
